SOLIDWORKS World 2018 brought together around 5,000 engineers and designers from across the globe. The event provided the ideal opportunity to discover the latest in SOLIDWORKS 3D applications and engineering technologies that help millions of SOLIDWORKS users create compelling customer experiences.
Jeff Rowe interviews DriveWorks’ CEO, Glen Smith, at SOLIDWORKS World 2018 for MCAD Cafe
Glen Smith, CEO and Co-Founder of DriveWorks Ltd, is a graduate Mechanical Engineer with a passion for automation.
In this interview, Glen explains how since its inception, DriveWorks has developed software for manufacturing companies that have ‘same but different’ products. In other words, where the product changes each time it’s designed or sold, based on rules.
DriveWorks the company started with design automation and product configuration to allow SOLIDWORKS engineers to automate their design processes.
From there, it was soon apparent that other departments needed automation capability too. Today, DriveWorks software is used by engineers, sales teams and customers to design and configure to order. This is often referred to as CPQ.
The key benefits of DriveWorks are that it enables companies to automate repetitive tasks, reduce errors and save time.
In this video, Glen discusses how the market is changing and whilst CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) software is gaining popularity, users also want to view 3D configurations within a web browser in order to visualize their designs.
Jeff also wanted to know what else the DriveWorks team were showing on their booth at SOLIDWORKS World. Glen explained that within the manufacturing industry there is a need to create shop floor layouts, with items laid out and connected together inside SOLIDWORKS or in a web browser in 3D. Both are achievable with DriveWorks and the software will also create the manufacturing data automatically in the background.
Glen also tells Jeff about SHIFT, our custom Gear Shift configurator that was created specifically for the SOLIDWORKS World booth to tie in with the Shop Floor at SOLIDWORKS World 2018 – an area that featured live manufacturing of SOLIDWORKS parts and assemblies.
Companies of all sizes and from many industries are using configurators they have built using DriveWorks, to configure custom products on desktop, mobile and tablet.
We have developed 3 SOLIDWORKS Certified Gold Partner Products, one of which, DriveWorksXpress, has been embedded by into every seat of SOLIDWORKS.
Anyone with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD can automate with DriveWorksXpress, just follow these simple steps to Activate to Automate.
